What PETE actually is
PETE stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate, one of the most common plastics used in food and drink packaging, prized for its clarity and strength. It's what Wedderspoon's honey jars and bottles are made from.
Why it matters for recycling
The PETE symbol tells you the packaging is recyclable, and it's one of the most widely accepted plastics in kerbside recycling programmes, so there's a genuinely good chance it gets a second life rather than ending up in landfill. Recycled PETE goes on to become things like clothing fibres, carpeting, and new food containers, which means less demand for new plastic and a lower carbon footprint overall.
